Unaccompanied minor asylum seekers in the Netherlands. Choice or chance?

Authors Research and Documentation Centre, Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security, Sanne Noyon, Monika Smit, ...
Description
Worldwide, many migrants leave their countries in search of safety and internation- al protection. In 2015, the number of asylum seekers in Europe reached a peak. Among them were unaccompanied minor asylum seekers (UMAs). The current study aimed to shed light on the push and pull factors that played a role in the flight of the UMAs who arrived in the Netherlands in 2015, to understand the processes through which these minors ultimately ended up in this country, their expectations regarding the intended destination, if any, and their satisfaction with life in the Netherlands – topics about which little is known so far.

The collection of statistical data on migration in Azerbaijan

Authors Arif YUNUSOV
Description
In the post-Soviet period in Azerbaijan?especially in the 90?s due to war with Armenia, and the political chaos and economic collapse after the breakup of the USSR? serious problems surrounding the statistical records of migration processes arose on the part of the State Statistical Committee (Goskomstat), the main department in this sphere in the republic. Subsequently, the situation involving records of population movement began to improve. However, problems remained. And they were largely connected to the fact that during this period in Azerbaijan, there were many other government departments besides Goskomstat working on issues related to population migration statistics: the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, the State Committee on Refugee Affairs and Internally Displaced Persons, the State Committee on the Affairs of Azerbaijanis Living Abroad, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the Ministry of National Security (MNS), the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education. Each of the above ministries and committees had a special department that poorly coordinated with the others on this issue. Only in recent years has the situation started to change a little for the better, especially after the creation of the State Migration Service (SMS) in 2007, which has a mandated function to merge state control over migration processes, including statistical records. But this process is in its early stages and for now more than 80% of the statistical data on population migration is still administered by Goskomstat.

DIASP: Assessing the Dublin Regulation’s impact on asylum seekers’ access to protection and identifying best practice implementation in the European Union

Description
The DIASP project aims to bring the personal experiences of asylum seekers directly into the EU and member state debate on Dublin. Its central objective is twofold: to study the level of protection asylum seekers have access to under the implementation of the Dublin Regulation, and to identify and advocate for best practices in implementing Dublin procedures in 10 member states of the EU.

Integration of migrants and reintegration of returnees in Georgia : legal prospective

Authors Gaga GABRICHIDZE
Description
Georgia is, above all, a country of emigration. For that reason, the issue of the integration of immigrants has never been to the fore in the political debate. However, even if there is no policy document on the integration of migrants there are a lot of provisions in Georgian legislation which are related to the integration of migrants. Primarily this concerns the provisions regulating the rights and obligations of migrants as the comparison of legal status of migrants with that of Georgian citizens may help to define the position of migrant with regard to integration. Also of importance are those measures implemented by the state which can be considered as positive measures with regards to integration. Therefore, we will first analyse the legal and institutional framework of integration will be analyzed and second, we will offer an overview of measures supporting the integration of migrants as well as reintegration measures taken by the state. Challenges will be identified and recommendations will be elaborated based on this analysis. It should also be noted here that the study will cover the status of foreign citizens in general and the integration-relevant aspect of relations in which stateless persons and also refugees participate.
